Avoid a cold after training, buy a sweat blanket

Something you should avoid at all cost, is your Shetland pony or miniature horse catching a cold. You can achieve this by not exposing your pony to low temperatures, but it’s a lot easier to make sure your pony is well protected. There are several suitable blankets for this. A winter blanket for instance, for very cold weather, rain blankets when the weather forecast predicts precipitation and sweat blankets. These sweat blankets are used after a training. They might seem insignificant; when sweating is involved, it’s probably not very cold. And yet, these sweat blankets are very important indeed. If your Shetland pony, Falabella or Welsh pony seriously sweated during a training, it can cool down rapidly. The damp on the coat gets chilly and the miniature horse will grow cold very quickly. You can avoid this by covering your horse with a sweat blanket, immediately after training. The sweat will be drained away and the pony will not get hypothermic.
